BDAC Early Learning Centre.
Design and construction of a 99 student prefabricated early learning centre in North Bendigo for the Bendigo and District Aboriginal Co-operative Indigenous community.
The building is located at the BDAC headquarters site, providing state-of-the-art facilities for the locals including three general playrooms with wet areas for the children, maternal and child health services, and BDAC staff offices.
The façade of the building visually reflects the surrounding through the charcoal painted fibre cement sheet, requiring low maintenance and accentuating the shadows cast by the tall eucalyptus species of Ironbark trees, and its dark trunks. The Silvertop Ash timber cladding accents the woody nature of the outback context, whilst bringing warmth to the contrast with the dark charcoal.
The simple façade and low-profile building nestle into the site gracefully and harmoniously represents the modern facility for the next generation whilst acknowledging the environment on which it sits.
Project value: $2,250,000 (excl GST) including design, consultant and authority fees, factory and site based construction. Completion Date: 2022.
