South Cres.

A modest, two-storey home placed on a compact inner suburban site. Sustainability, connection, and compact living serve as the underlying philosophy in the creation of the South Cres residence.

A simple selection of materials and clever spatial planning delivers a two-bedroom family home on a compact suburban lot that is effortlessly connected to its surrounding environment. Reverse living locates the kitchen, dining and living areas, and deck, on a first floor that overlooks a view of the inner suburban context, with the bedrooms and bathroom located on the ground floor.

Specific to this project, vented cavity wall construction combined with high-end breathable building wrap serve to minimise thermal bridging and enhance the overall thermal performance of the house.

Low E double glazing was used for all windows, and a northern orientation was adopted for all living areas. Solar energy is harnessed from the roof and stored in a 3.2KWP system connected to a Tesla battery.

This project has been shortlisted in two categories of the 2019 House Awards – ‘New House under 200m2’ and ‘Sustainability’.

This project has also been awarded a Highly Commended for the category of ‘Prefab & Modular’ at the 2019 Sustainability Awards.

Project value: $745,000 including GST, design, consultant and authority fees, factory and site based construction. Modular building system.
